Well Read & A Sale!

>> Thursday, March 15, 2012

One of my very favorite pastimes is reading, so I wanted to create a kit with that theme.  I got the ideas for the colors from one of the covers of one of my favorite paper backs (Jane Austen's Persuasion) and tried to focus on kind a vintage, feminine look.  Here's the final product: Well Read!  Be sure to visit the product page for some amazing layouts by my super talented CT!

We had a little contest yesterday, and here is the winner:  Christelle!  Here's what she had to say:

I read a lot for school so I don't do it too much in my free time. These days when I want to relax I like to read romances, like Lori Foster's books!

Lucky Me!

>> Thursday, March 8, 2012

It's been kind of a weird winter here-- part snowy, part warm, totally unreliable one way or another.  Today is bright and sunny, which is really nice because I wasn't looking forward to shoveling the snow off of the driveway!

I was in a very Springtime mood when I created my new kit, "Lucky Me".  It has a little bit of St. Patty's day flavor, and plenty of patterned papers and fun elements.  It's 20% off at The Digichick today and tomorrow, too!

My team did some awesome things with this kit, as usual.  I'm lucky to have such a great CT!

Gorgeous, huh?!  I'm so inspired!

I also made a sweet little milk carton box for a friend of mine using Kelleigh's amazing template and this kit.  I filled it with Hershey's Hugs.  ♥

Why

>> Wednesday, March 7, 2012

I have a great new release that I'm excited to post about.  That will have to wait until tomorrow, though, because tonight I want to post about more of the heart of the matter, about why I keep these scrapbooks going in the first place.

It's been an emotional night for me.  My husband is away in the first week of a month-long business trip, I have a raging sinus cold, and tonight I had parent-teacher conferences for my two older boys.

I've been a little bit worried about my oldest son, Thomas, for a little while now.  Thomas is extremely bright, talented, and kind, and he has one of those personalities (a lot like Dad's) where he doesn't have or need a lot of friends, just one or two really close ones.  For the past two years, Tom's best friend lived just down the street, and their personalities and tastes are so alike that they seemed like twins separated at birth.  Sadly, this dear friend moved away in January, and life has been a little more challenging for Tom ever since.

At our conference tonight, Tom's sweet teacher expressed concern for him as well.  The reality of his loneliness suddenly became apparent, and my heart just broke for him.  I talked to my husband, cried a lot, and we decided that the best thing to do would be to make sure that Tom knows that we love him and support him.  He keeps in touch with his friend who moved, and we're sure a new friend will come along soon.  In the meantime, he just needs to feel that he is cared for here at home.

After talking to my husband, I came downstairs and found Tom sitting on the family room floor, his big flannel blanket around his shoulders, looking at his scrapbook and laughing.  When he saw me, he pointed at one of the baby pictures and told me what a cute baby he was.  My camera was right there and I couldn't resist capturing this moment.

So, here it is:  this moment, when my little boy is finding joy in looking at these books about his own life, feeling safe and happy and loved-- this is why I do what I do.  And tonight, it is so, so worth it.

Phone Photo Fun {Freebie}!

>> Saturday, March 3, 2012

I have a huge admiration for people doing Project 365.  I would love to do it-- I would love to have the discipline to do it.  Last summer, I tried an "87 Days of Summer Vacation" project, and even though I love that I have pictures of nearly every day of our fun summer, by the end, I was ready to chuck my camera out the window!  (Not really.)

I have a big camera, and even though I don't really get embarrassed pulling it out and taking pictures, it's hard-- especially in the Winter-- to justify bringing it with me everywhere, just in case.

Enter the iPhone.

Our cell phone plan was up for renewal and we had a loyalty discount, so when the iPhone 4 was offered for a really reasonable price, I couldn't pass it up.  And I LOVE it.  And of course, I downloaded the Instagram app pretty much instantly.  And Angry Birds, but that's a different topic.

Anyway, suddenly, getting pictures of everyday life doesn't seem quite so difficult.  Carrying my phone around was something I was going to do anyway, and adding fun little vintage filters to all of my little phone pics makes them somehow super cool.  Here are a few I've done so far...

I love the fun vintage-y frames on some of the filters and I decided to make a few of my own frames in the hopes that I might scrap some of these fun life moments.  I'm sharing them with you, too-- a fun little six frame freebie!

Just click the image above or here to download your Phone Photo Frames instantly-- and have fun snapping away!  Happy Saturday!

I also released a new kit this week.  It's called A Fresh Start and it makes me think of the lovely mid-winter thaw we're having right now.  The groundhog may have predicted another six weeks of winter yesterday, but that doesn't mean my heart isn't set on an early spring!

I think this adorable hybrid mailbox is the perfect thing to show your special someone that you love them.  Of course, you need something to stick inside that mailbox, right?  I'd suggest some Hershey Kisses and these free printable love notes!
